Also known as Tehuti, or Thoth, Hermes Trismegistus is the being given credit for the ancient philosophy of Hermetism (or Hermeticism). Which is also considered a spiritual, occult, and esoteric tradition of wisdom. He lived in Egypt in the most ancient of days, and some legends state he was an immortal from Atlantis. His teachings were known to greatly expand one’s consciousness, and his wisdom was second to none.
The ancients dubbed him the Master of Masters, or the Thrice Great. All fundamental and core elements of occult and esoteric teachings were said to be traced back to him, and he was the man who introduced the first mystery schools into ancient Egypt. Even the biblical Abraham is said to have learned a portion of his mystic knowledge from the Master of Masters. Hermes Trismegistus would live far beyond a normal human lifespan and upon his death would rise to godhood becoming Thoth, the god of maintaining the universe, magic, communication, writing, science, and the judgment of the dead. He and Ma’at, the god of balance and justice, stand to each side of Ra on his boat as he journeys through the heavens. Later the Greeks would add him to their pantheon as well, calling the deity Hermes, and the man would become a
But before he was revered as a god, Hermes Trismegistus was the first great philosopher. He is also credited with the invention of writing, numbers, and the great work every soul must go through before it may ascend. Legend tells he would go into deep trances through meditation, then write the most profound spiritual texts the world had ever seen. This includes the mythical Emerald Tablets of Thoth, which are his highest teachings only meant for the worthy, and unattainable by the profane.
Studying the Master of Masters teachings would bring profound enlightenment and the highest states of consciousness. The secrets of the universe awaited those who studied his work, as well as awakening dormant parts of the human brain. But, many consider the Emerald Tablets of Thoth to be in the Astral Plane, and not a material object at all. Only when an initiate into the mysteries has proved themselves worthy is the wisdom of the tablets granted to them in that etheric realm.
Hermes Trismegistus would teach about medicine, chemistry, law, art, music, magic, geography, and most of all philosophy. His sheer amount of knowledge was so vast the ancient Egyptians considered him the great communicator with the gods, able to dip his consciousness into the pool of universal knowledge.
Hermetism would become the root of all religions and philosophies to come throughout history, but the most profound teachings he would bestow upon humanity would be the Seven Hermetic Principles. These are also known as the laws of the universe in many occult and esoteric traditions and govern both the material and immaterial worlds. It is said that truly understanding these principles opens one’s insights into the true nature of reality and that the universe exists in perfect harmony through these laws. Though the true understanding of these principles is elusive to all but true seekers of higher knowledge and the most dedicated of students of the mysteries. If the laws of the universe are truly absorbed into one’s being, then transformation happens in every aspect of that person’s life and expands their world far beyond what they ever could have imagined.
The first law is the Principle of Mentalism. Which states that ALL is mind, and the universe is mental. The second law is the Principle of Correspondence. Which states as above, so below. As within, so without. The third law is the Principle of Vibration. Which states that nothing rests. Everything moves. Everything vibrates. The fourth law is the Principle of Polarity. Which is the most important law for humans seeking enlightenment, and states that the universe is in eternal balance. In order for existence, all things must also have their polar opposite. And that all truths are merely half-truths. The fifth law is the Principle of Rhythm. Which states that cycles regulate all that is. The sixth law is the Principle of Cause and Effect. Which states, every cause has its effect. Every effect has its cause. Everything happens according to the law, and all that occurs is of the law. Basically, it’s the oldest wisdom teaching that says you reap what you sow, or treat others as you would be treated. The seventh law is the Principle of Gender. Which states that gender manifests in all things, and is also known as the Principle of Generation. These Seven Hermetic Principles were the core of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus, and pivotal to many of the occult mystery schools that would follow throughout human history. To truly know these principles absorbed into one’s being was to understand the very nature of reality and the universe itself. A task easier said than done. The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of understanding.
Hermes Trismegistus was the father of occult wisdom. The founder of astrology. The discoverer of alchemy. And the creator of a philosophy all nations would borrow from throughout all human civilizations. In all the ancient lands, his name was revered and synonymous with the very heart of wisdom. But his teachings were never made clear, or out in the open. Making sure only those worthy of limitless being could attain the heights of enlightenment. Thus keeping the profane and unworthy at bay in a timeless manner. Hermetic Philosophy was never meant for the masses of humanity. The truth was only for those who
The followers of Hermes always maintained the highest levels of secrecy in their teachings. This meant even if you were talking to one, if you were not initiated into the mysteries as well, then that person would never admit to being a Hermeticist, nor disclose higher knowledge in any way. Followers of the teachings of Hermes would never throw pearls before swine. Hermetic teachings are found in all lands, in all religions, and in all philosophies. But never identified with any particular country, religious sect, or public faction. The teachings of Hermes Trismegistus have been a flame passed on from one adept to another throughout all the eons
